About the Speaker:

 Mr. Thomas Evans has been immersed in the ready mixed concrete industry since 1989 accepting a variety of responsibilities including plant operations, batching, dispatching, placing, finishing, sales, marketing, promotion, education and advocacy. Over the past 20 years, he has served the membership of the Maryland Ready Mix Concrete Association (MRMCA or The Association). He served as the Promotion Director for The Association from 1997 to 2013 and continues to serve as the Executive Director today. Prior to serving the Maryland membership, Tom was the Promotion Director for the New Jersey Concrete & Aggregate Association.  Tom is a Past President of and current Director on the MD Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Board. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from West Virginia University in 1987.

Mr. Robert Hackman, PE, is a professional engineer with over 30 years of experience in the Maryland area providing consulting services, and has established his firm GeoMaterials Consulting, LLC to continue helping clients solve geomaterials problems. His service areas are related to soils, rock, concrete, and asphalt among other construction geomaterials.  The firm's capabilities range from peer review of geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing reports as well as constructability plan reviews to forensic studies to litigation support and expert witness testimony.

 Program:

 This presentation helps engineers see the benefits of incorporating Portland cement concrete paving for a variety of project applications. The program will be presented by Thomas Evans, Executive Director for the Maryland Ready Mix Concrete Association and Robert Hackman, P.E., GeoMaterials Consulting, LLC.

 Learning Objectives:

·         Know the benefits of concrete pavements.

·         Understand basic Design procedures.

·         Know where to use concrete pavements.

·         Become aware of advances in construction methods and equipment Technology.

·         Know where to get resources that support concrete pavement design and construction.
